There are many small towns in the Northwest. Every once in a while, we like to highlight a town that catches our interest and hopefully our reader's imagination. Today, we decided to give you a taste of the purple. In the town that might even beat out Prince's bedroom as most purple, natural beauty reigns and the artistic thrive. This town is Sequim, Washington, and yes, you probably did pronounce that wrong.

Sequim (pronounced like skwim), is a little town along one of the most beautiful stretches of land in the US, the Olympic Peninsula. nestled in the mountains, Sequim is considered to be in a rain shadow, which means, the raincoat you brought for the trip, go ahead and leave it in the car because Sequim gets 300 days of sunshine a year. One could say that Sequim is the sunshine in the state of melancholy moods and wet clothes. If you need a break from that iconic Washington drizzle, Sequim may be just the right place for you.

Sequim isn't just know for its days of sunshine, though. Sequim is also home to the largest lavender farms in the world. You remember that thing I said about Sequim beating out Prince's bedroom? Well, this is what I meant. Lavender is a purple weed that is native to the old world and in areas of Europe. During the prime of the season, Sequim puts on its annual Lavender Festival. The Lavender fest is dedicated to all things lavender. You can buy lavender soaps, perfume, drinks, coffee, I think you get the picture. During this time, the entire town is painted purple and the lavender fills the sidewalks and fields. The festival happens July 20-22, so don't forget to stop by.

So, next time you're taking a visit to the Olympics, be sure to stop by the small town of Sequim, where the days are sunny and the streets are... Purple. Til' next time.
